71 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 11 1886 On motion of Councilman Lake the Clerk is directed to advertise for bids for furnishing the City with Lumber for the ensuing year Councilman Reitze moves that the Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for lighting the streets and care of Street lights for a term of one to five years Lost Councilman Furth moves that the Clerk be directed to call for bids for lighting the lighting the streets and care of Lamps for a term of one year. CouncilmanFrink moves to amend by advertising for a term of five years. The amendment being voted upon is lost. And the original motion being put is carried and the Clerk ordered to advertise for bids for lighting the streets and care of Street Lamps for the term of one year. An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote; in favor of same Coulter, Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckly, Lake, Reitze & Russell. Against none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn W H Shoudy, mayor attest: W R Forrest, clerk Aug 20 1886 Be it remembered that on this 20th day of August A D 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law: The following officers are present to wit: Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen J M Frink, Joseph Green, T D Hinckley, T W Lake, R Russell & C F Reitze . Whereupon the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting were read & approved Petitions Communications etc

75 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 20 1886 The following bids are rec'd and read for furnishing lumber Western Mill Co All the Rough lumber required by City @ $8.50 per [thousand board feet] Seattle Lumber & Commercial Co All the R Common lumber required for Street Improvements @ $7.90 per [thousand board feet] Stetson & Post Mill Co Good Merchantable rough Fir & Alder lumber @ $8.50 per [thousand board feet] After discussion & Comparison of bids on motion of Councilman Lake the contract for furnishing the City with Lumber for the ensuing year is awarded to the Stetson & Post Mill Co The following bids are received for Lighting & Care of Street Lamps. R W McDaniel 69 cents per lamp per month J J Sullivan 60 cents per lamp per month J C Killen 60 cents per lamp per month J Clancy 49 cents per lamp per month J Harrison 50 cents per lamp per month A C Turner 80 cents per lamp per month M Murphy 60 cents per lamp per month B J Allen $60.00 per month G A Tyler $55.00 per month Bids for lighting the streets of the City are rec'd from Seattle Electric Light Co Seattle Gas Light Co Ordered that the consideration of bids for Street Lighting & Care of Street Lamps be postponed until Monday Aug 23d at 8 o'clock PM Miscellaneous Ordered that the purchasing agent be and he is hereby instructed to purchase sufficient sewer pipe to extend the Union St sewer to Eighth St On moton the Chief of Police is instructed to look up missing City Property & report to the Council
