340 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 18 1887 On motion ordered that the proposition made by the Stetson & Post Mill Company for furnishing lumber to the City be accepted. Ordered that the matter of the laborers on Madison Street grade be referred to the City Attorney with power to act. Ordered that the council do now adjourn Approved Thomas T Minor, mayor Attest W R Forrest CLerk. Dec 2 1887 Be it remembered that on this 2nd day of December 1887 the Common Council of the Cityof Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Thos T Minor and Councilmen J Furth, Jos Green, T W Lake, Robt Moran, U R Niesz & C F Reitze & W R Forrest, clerk. Petitions etc rec'd Petition of Z T Holden & Others for opening Willow Street between Depot & Thomas Streets and putting in a draining ditch, read & referred to Street Com. Petition of John Lavender for permission to put up a two story wooden building on the South Side of Washington Street between second & third streets, read and granted. Petition of F E Sander & Others for the opening & planking of Alley in Block 10 Maynard's Plat read & referred to the Street Committee. Petition of F E Sander & Others from permission to erect a wooden building on Lot 1 Block 10

341 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Dec 8 1887 Maynard's Plat read & granted. Communication from J J McGilvera in regard to Madison Street grade read & referred to the city Atty. Petition of O J Carr & others for street lights on West Street from Virginia Street to Vine Street read and granted; said lights to be of 16 candle power & placed on wooden posts. Petition of Frederick Prosch for a cross walk on Fourth Street at the corner of Virginia Street read & referred to the Street Committee. Petition of A G Murray for permission to build on addition to his oyster stand on South Second Street read and granted. Petition of Thomas Burke & others for grading alley in Block 9 Boren & Denny's Addition read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Henry Adams to have assessment corrected, read & referred to the City Atty, and returned by said Atty with the recommendation that it be rejected. Adopted. Petition of N L Rodgers & others for opening Leonora Street from Front Street to Fourth Street and that the bluff on the bank on the East side of Front Street on said Seneca Street so sloped enough to prevent land slides onto Front Street sidewalk, read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of L M Robbins & others asking for appointment of J L McClellan to a Police Captaincy read and tabled.

342 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 2 1887 Petition of J H Morris for permission to repair wooden building in Front Street on Lot 7 block 'A' of A A Denny's Addition read & granted. Petition of John Langston for permission to erect a wooden building on lot 6 Block 10 Maynard's Plat granted provided said building is put up in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No 833. Petition of J A Capp for refunding $11.00 balance left on sale of impounded horse, granted & Clerk directed to draw a warrant for the same on the City Fund. Monthly Reports Rec'd From City Atty for month of Nov. read & ordered filed. From Chief of Police for month of Nov. read & ordered filed. From Police Justices Jones & Soderberg referred to Finance Com From City Jailor for month of Nov. referred to Finance Com. From City Treasurer for month of Nov. referred to Finance Com. From Street Commissioner for month of Nov. referred to Street Committee and returned approved. Committee Reports Received From Street Committee granting petition of W B Cone & others for opening alley in Block 33 Maynard's Plat. Adopted. From Same Committee reporting that the sidewalk had been repaired on Jefferson Street as requested by the Turin Virien Society. From same Committee on petition of G W Newell & others for extending the planking on Grant Street requesting the same for the present. Adopted

343 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Dec 2 1887 From Came Committee rejecting petition of Seattle Warehouse Company for an incline on Spring Street as an incline at the point asked for would be too steep to be of any practical use. Adopted. From Committee on Harbor & Wharves making certain recommendations in regard to Harbor Master etc. From Committee on Fire & Water on petition of P G Berzamane for permission to build a fish stand on the West Side of Front Street opposite Phillips Bros foundry to the effect that the committee finds that the petitioner had already completed the building and recommending that the fire warden be instructed to see that he comply with the City ordinances regulating the erection of buildings within the Fire Limits. From same Committee granting petition of F M Bennett for permission to build and addition to his shop on Commercial Street providing he comply with Ordinance No 833. Adopted. From Committee on Street Lights granting petition of E P Burk & others for a Street Lights Corner of Blanchard & 2d Streets the same to be a 16 candle power & placed on a wooden post adopted. Licenses Ordered Issued Geo C Munroe & Co Retail liquor for 6 months Frank W Clancy Retail liquor for 6 months The vote requiring said licenses is a s follows in favor of the same Furth, Green, Lake, Moran Niesz & Reitze against none.
