Petition of J P Smith for permission to remove the wreck of the
Steamer Mississippi read and tabled.
Communication from Chamber of Commerce and Board of
Trade requesting the Council to pass a resolution protesting
against the passage of the bill for the division of King County,
read, and the Mayor authorized to telegraph the King County
representatives at Olympia to use every effort to defeat said bill.
The Mayor being called away calls Councilman
Furth to the chair.
Report from Chief of the Fire Department read and
referred to the Comittee on Fire and Water
Committee Reports Rec'd
From Committee on Fire & Water on Petition of W A Perry
& J H Kennedy, engineers, for an increase of salary recom-
mending that the pay of said engineers be increased to
$82.50 per month. Adopted.
From same Committee on the report of the Chief of the
Fire Department as follows we find the fire slips in fair
condition and would not recommend any further outlay at
present than is recommend in the report of the Harbor
& Wharves Committee. We recommend that the purchasing agent
be authorized to procure suitable and sufficient suction
hose for the use of the Fire Department. We do not recommend
the employment of a driver and a tillerman nor the
purchase of hoses for the new turn table truck at
