Petition of H Carson and others for an additionial police officer of Front Street north of Pike Street Read and referred to Com on Health and Police Communication from Mr J G Scurry City Surveyor, in regard to the sliding earht along the Mill Street grade. Read and referred to the Street Com. and City Surveyor to report at next meeting. Ordered that a committee of three be appointed

583 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 23 1888 to confer with the "Arbor Association" in the matter of setting out shade trees along the streets the Mayor appoints F J Burns, U R Niesz and Jos Green The Council now proceeds with the examination and equalization of the asessment roll of 1888 Ordered that the improvements of Lot 6 Block 5 Judkin's Addn assessed to C P Stone be stricken from the roll. Ordered that the improvements on Lot 6 Block 4 Bell and Denny's plat assessed to Jno R Kinnear be reduced from $800 to $450. Ordered that G M Haller be reduced on improvements on Lot 7 Blk 8 Boren & Denny's addn from 3100 to $2000. Ordered that the assessment of G M Haller onLots in Adelia addn be referred to a committee of one The Mayor appoints Mr Jos Green. Ordered that the improvements on Block 100 Terry's 2nd Addn assessed to G O Haller be reduced from $8000 to $4000. Reconsidered. zordered that mr Fred Gasch be reduced on improvements on Union Block situated on a portion Lot 6 Block M Terry's 3rd addn from $10000 to $8000. Ordered hat the matter of Bank Assessments be referred to Mr U R Niesz Ordered that Watson C Squires assessments on Blocks 1 and 13 Bell & Denny's addn be reduced on half(1/2) and Lots 1-2-3 & 4 in each block be stricken from the roll being water lots.

Also thst the improvements on Lot 6 Blk 7 Maynard's plat be reduced from 2500 to $1500. Also that the improvements on 5 block 51 Dennys to Terrys be stricken from the roll. Also that $2575 mortgages be stricken from his ass't. Ordered that the W C Squire's assessment on Lot 5 Block 3 Maynard's plat be raised from $1600 to $16000. Ordered that the matter of reducing the assessment on improvements on Block 100 Terry's 2nd be reconsidered and G M Haller requested to appear and show why assessment shoudl be reduced. Ordered that Wa Chong - R Abernathy - O S Jones Edgar Bryan - T C Young - Mark Jen Sue - H A Hansen Herschberg & Cofor sited toappear and show cause why their assessments should not be raised.
