Petition of Geo N Moore et al asking that traveling photographers be compelled to pay a high license. Read and referred to License and Revenue Committee.

631 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 12 1888 Petition of Thos Mercer et al for the establishment of the grade of High Street. Read and referred to Street Com. Petitions of A B Austin for permission to erect building inside the fire limits. read and Tabled. Remonstrance of R Abernathy against condemning Lot 6 Block P Bell's 5th Addn read and referred to Street Com Petition of Fred Gasch for a change of grade on 5th St Read and referred to street com. Petition of Thos Webb for street lights on Depot and Fifth Streets and for a crossing on Depot St at Fifth Read and street Lights granted. Matter of crossing referred to Street Com. 632 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 12 1888 Petition of Wm Morris et al for a Fire plug corner of 9th & King Streets Read and Granted. Petition of R Abrams for a sewer in Wall Street from Front Street to the Bay. Read and referred to Com on Sewers. Petition of A D McInerney for compensation for care of waif. Read and Referred to com on Health &Police. Petition of Jno Eagan for permission to erect a wooden awning on Main Street. read and referred to Street Com. Committee Reports From Fire & Water Committee on recommendations of the Chief of the Fire Dept as follows: 1st that the City purchase two horses for Engine No 1. Two for No 2, and one for Belltown Engine Co No1 and that suitable stable room be provided for the same. 2nd That the City provide four wheeled hose carriage for Belltown Co 3rd That the City employ drivers for the above mentioned teams. 4th That the City erect a fire alarm system. 5th That 1000 ft of hose be purchased. 6th That Chief of Fire Dept examine and replace all defective Hydrant with the new Style. 7th and 8th that the City Attorney draft new ordinances for the regulation of the Fire Department. In conclusion the Com recommend a liberal policy toward the fire department. Adopted. Report of the Finance Com on Standing of City &Road funds Read and ordered filed. Misc. Ordered that O C Shorey and Co be employed to remove the bodies now interred in Luna View Park Ordered that the Mayor appoint a Committee to consider

633 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 12 1888 the matter of the Main Street Ferry slip C F Reitze, F J Burns and Jos Green appointed. Ordered that the Check for $1000 deposited by the Seattle Construction Co as a guarantee of good faith be returned by Clerk to said Company. The provisions of their franchise having been complied with. Ordered that the permit heretofore granted to the Seattle Upholstery Co for permission to erect wooden building within the fire limits be recinded. The supplemental Plat of Edes & Knight Addn is approved.
