Columbia, Washington, May 1-1899

The town council met in regular session at 8P.M. Present
Mayor Reeves, Councilmen Hepler, Hellenthal, Pierson, absent
Campbell, [Womack?]. Minutes of previous meeting read and
approved. Mr. Cox, agent for [Pack?] City [Directary?] appeared before the
council to solicit a [reimbursement?] of [latva?] of Columbia in [city directory?]
On motion the mayor appointed a committee of Mr Pierson & Hellenthal to the [haie?] a page for
said [directory?] - clerk was [airected?] to and did sign order for same to cost [twenty five crossed out] fifteen dollars for year 1899

Water committee reported [peacing?] to [aim?] in [thre?] [new?] houses
in town and extending water main 52 feet - report [accinted?].

Street committee reported letting of [counael?] for sewer from Ferdinand St to [Accgeliere?] St for $85.00 and completion of [saure?] -

Mayor Reeves gave verbal report of the [asurin?] of amt of money
on hand - city attorney Nichols [readaced?] [sciaemited?] his report which
was accepted and placed on file. On motion treasurer was instructed
to [access?] meter from [Mrs?] [Drinkel?] to town of Columbianot to pay
certain warrants named in said [netier?] to anyone - clerk instructed
to so [notisy?] treasurer. On reading bond of [sfsfa?]
Hastings and wife to town of Columbia to save said town [harintess?]
in case certain warrants offered by said Hastings have been here to [fort?]
paid, it was moved and carried [that?] Cil. attorney advise
council at next meeting of the sufficency of said bond, and per
be good to access the same - and that the same policy be
[peirsued?] in similar cases. Report of marshal read, accepted
and filed.

[In?] matter of unfinished business it was moved & carried
that water committee advertise for bids and let the contraor
for increasing water supply in accordance with [leans?]
and specifications to be [adented?] by said [committee?] - the
cost of such improvement not to exceed $350.00

Clerk was instructed to prepare and sign voucher to be
delivered to county [treasurer?] for receipt of [inpaid?] taxes amounting
to $120 [2 words crossed out]

Matter of [frauchis?] of Rainier [Ave?] Railway postponed
to next regular meeting.

New Business - The matter of [peacing] bar drain in rear of
C R Hepler property referred to Street committee with [pawn?] to act
By resolution Treasurer was authorized to pay redeem
warrant [not l leheed?] by [oaschade] ammounting to 1.50 when
poperly endorsed. Bills audited and warrants ordered drawn
on current expense fund in payment [thirish?].

It was by motion carried that committee be appointed
to draft [ririsancr?] licenses for town of Columbia
committee appointed [coudisted?] of Mrs. Pierson, Hellenthal and
Hepler
