TO THE HONORABLE POLICE COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE.

Gentlemen:

The importance of the thorough equipment of
the Police Force is a subject worthy of due considera-
tion by your Honorable body. If any number of men sud-
denly form themselves into a mob and began to destroy
property and jeopardize life, the city of Seattle should
be able to mass at any point inside of an hour her en-
tire Police Force thoroughly drilled and equipped sworn
to preserve the peace of the city and the dignity of
the Government.

I would recommend that suitable action be taken by
your Honorable body relative to the purchase, by the
city of Seattle, at an early date, of One Hundred improv-
ed Springfield rifles to be kept at Police Headquarters
for use in an emergency.

Respectfully Submitted

A. Jackson, Chief of Police
