outside of a room with a draught to draw the
vapor into the room which is lined with lead
and the floor covered with water, thus [?] x No5 x {??}
= S O No these two gases and vapor form a solid
that - 2 falls and 2 SO3 No4 = 2 SO3 No2
then this rises and so on. Sulphuric is put into vessels
called Carbon[??], these are heated in a sand bath to drive
off the vapor, this acid stains wood by taking away the Oxygen
and Hydrogen and leaves Carbon take a pound of this acid
and by its attraction for water it will double itself in a year
Bar[??] is a test for Sulphuric acid it forms a white
preciputate.
Sulphuretted Hydrogen is formed thus SO3 + HO + l
{S??] = SO3 {?????] this smells like putrified aggs, it
throws down the metals from solution.
The Hydrogen unites with the Oxygen of
the oxide in solution forming mater and leanez the Sulphite
of the metal, Sulpher aslo unites with Carbon formed by
passing the vapor of Sulpher over hot Charcoal

Nitrogen and its Compounds
Nitric acid is prepared by placing dilute sulphuric
acid in Nitre of potash it forms sulphate
of potash and liberates Nitric acid, thus
2 SO3 HO + No5 - KO = 2 SO. + KO No5, this
acid was discovered by Dr. Pai[esll]y
the year 1756. Potoxide
