Darlington April 29th 1876

Dear Fred,

I received the enclosed
from Tom Borden yesterday, and
in answering it today promised to write
to you & Ned Pierce about the
of the "San Fransisco 49ers" at the meeting
Centennial. I like the idea very
much, and as I can only be absent
for about two days, will make it suit
to go whenever you and E.P. go provided
it is not either upon the "Grand Opening"
of the 4th of July, upon both of which
occasions the crowd of the "Great un-
washed"
will be so great that there
will be no pleasure or comfort for
any one, but themselves, and the
politicians. President makers V.
I can stay at sister H's whilst there
so that it will cost me but little,
otherwise I should not feel it right
