the only besides those mentioned was a "dug out"
stuck into a bank with several loungers from
the neighboring ranches, sunning them selves
under the fraternal sign, and maternal
too for that matter. "ZANG'S LAGER
BEER BY THE DRINK OR KEG".
Edgarton was even more insignificant as
it could boast of only a station & P.O. & Barber
shop in one Building. Castle Rock is
quite a pretty place, taking its name
from a large Rock formed by nature
in shape of frowning fortress or armed
castle close to the railroad track. In
size Castle Rock is much larger than
the other two towns mentioned. A remarkable
feature of the settlement of Colorado for Government
lands is the way in which
they are taken up by the Eastern immigrants
who travel for hundreds of miles
across the plains in their "Prairie Schooners"
A grant with entire rights is made by the
government to the emigrant who takes
up a tract of land on conditions he
builds a small cabin 8 x 10 & I think it
is and lives there a year. In this
way the "Colorado Government Lands"
are being rapidly taken up by Kansas
