Ellinwood Hutchinson & Halstead and several
other towns of greater or less importance than
they were passed between eight and 11 or
12, then the monotony of the car I occupied
was relieved at Newton by the getting on of
2 bucks, 2 squaws & a pappoose of the
Kiowa nation who were on their way to
Topeka from a visit to their friends in
the Indian Territory. One of the Bucks
spoke very good English when he had a
mind to while the remainder of the company seemed
not to understand any but their own
tongue.

The whole company took seats in
front of me and the squawking of that
young Indian nearly made me mad enough
to throw him out upon the plain.
Many thriving towns were passed but none of
any particular note after leaving Newton except
Florence, Emporia & then Topeka The capitol
of Kansas was reached about 3 or 4 oclock
in the afternoon, at which our Indian friends
disembarked much to my comfort. -
