countenance. But it happened that a short
time previous to his going away Will had given
mae a watch to keep for him and about
four days after he left he wrote me a
letter from Alexandria Va asking me to
send his watch and telling me of his having run
away, it was then the first I had heard of it,
and a kept quiet as he requested me, for nearly
aweek when it became known that Will had run away
and that his father was awfully worried about
him. It was then I became aroused and I
deputized myself a committee of one two
see his father and tell all I knew. I went
down one evening with Frank [Fairall?] and
told Mrs Thomas all I knew an dshowed
her the letter I had gotten from Will. She
thanked me very much for coming and
told me all about Will running away and
why he went. It was because his father
had chastised him severely for spending money
two freely and for several other little reasons
that she hinted at. Early next morning
she telegraphed to Doctor who was still
searching Washington and told him to
go to Alexandria and the next day the
father returned bringing home the long
lost, though I fear not penitent boy.
