64 Cloudy & Rain SE May Sunday 30th 1880

Cloudy & threatning early in the morning. Charley's 20th, birthday. He took cousin Hannah Chandlee home taking Dora & Willie with him in the " Germantown." They did not get home until about 2 p.m having gone to Leawood Mills to "paddle" in the water leaving Dora at Riverside until on their way home. Rained most of the day. After tea Charley went to Mrs. Scotts.

65º Clear N.W Monday 31st

Went to Wm J Scofield's to Jno:Ed: Hills & to Brighton before noon. Afternoon Juliana Bond here for advice &c for her daughter, and Evaline Wallace for herself. Sent for to attend Laura Owens about tea time. After tea Charley went to a musical practice at "Falling Green."

62 1880 June Tuesday 1st

Called again last night to attend Laura Owings and her boy was born at ten minutes after midnight this a.m. Reached home at 1:30 a.m. Charley about half an hour ahead of me. Messenger after me before breakfast from Owing's. Went there in light buggy (taking Willie with me) thence to Harriet Jackson's (via Holland's corner) and home past "Norbeck," up the Brookville turnpike & past Rockland. Afternoon walked up to the store. Went to James Marlow's & dressed a wound in his left wrist- Commenced raining about dusk & continued throughout the evening.

60 Raining S.E. Wednesday 2nd

Rained most of last night and all this morning. Wash woman here. Afternoon I drove (in Germantown) down to Ashton and to "Fulford." Cleared off about 4 o' clock. So cold that we had fire in both dining room and parlor. Walter Scott & Geo Miller here in evening. After the store closed Charley went "serenading" with Ernest & some others - Marryatt here in the evening & had tooth extracted.

Clear S.W. June: Thursday 3d 1880

Ernest staid all night with Charley Willie & I drove (in Germantown) to Sarah Owing's & to Fulford before dinner. Fixed back seat with "set screws" to stop rattling. Towards evening Harriet, Dora Willie, Edwd & I went in Germantown to Edwd Peirce's & made a call. After tea Charley drove to N Fulford. Rained about the time he got home. Had some family music in the evening.

63º Clear S.W. Friday 4th

I "hilled up" the potatoes with shovel plow. Took Willie & drove to see -- Jackson's daughter (beyond Grace: Stabler's place. Came home by "Woodburn" & brought another Rabbit for Willie with us. After tea Dora, Charley & I went to North Fulford to the last meeting of the "musical" for the season. Took Miss Mary Gilpin with us.

69º Cloudy S.W. June: Saturday 5th 1880

Set out sweet potato plants. Ed Davies (colored) sent me $2.00 Chas G Porter here & looked at the "Omnibus". I drove down to Ashton in light buggy. Afternoon I "tinkered" & repaired fence around the house. Walked up to the store. Mary Augustus (wife of Charles Augustus) colored, from near Colesville, was here for advice & medicine.

68º Clear S.W. Sunday 6th

Beautiful day with strong N & S.W. wind blowing all day. Bro R here & went to meeting with Dora & dined with us. Mrs Jno King here with her children for advice etc. Charley went to Harewood before dinner and in afternoon went to Riverside & N. Fulford to take some ladies a drive. Clinton Cissell here & paid his bill.

68º Clear & Cloudy S.W. June Monday 7th 1880

Drove over to Homewood & called at "Ashton". Commenced fitting in the window shutters. Harriet cleaned & whitewashed our room. Eustace Lawford here about tea time. He and Charley went away together. C returned about 11 p.m.

68 Clear S.W. Tuesday 8th

Went to work again on the window shutters, finished fitting them in and hung the pair on the East window in dining room and pair at the head of the stairs. Edwd: Stabler Jr: called for advice for infant, also A G Thomas to enquire about a prescription from Dr Hardy. Walter Scott & Ernest here in the evening. Charley went with Walter to Henry Chandlee's.

68º Clear & Cloudy 1880 June Wednesday 9th

Drove (in phaeton) to "Kentmere" to prescribe for E Stabler Jr's infant. Worked at hanging shutters. Finished the East Kitchen window the front parlor window & spare room window. Cousin Annie Churchman from Philadelphia came in the late stage.

67º Cloudy S.E. WednesdayThursday 10th

Went to "Kentmere" to prescribe for E Stabler Jr's infant & to Fulford. Took cousin A Churchman, Dora & Willie to Homewood, left Cousin A there. Afternoon I took Harriet & cousin Annie's baggage to "Spring Dale". After tea Charley took his sister to Samuel Ellicott's to a party - drizzling & dark.

70 Clear & Cloudy S.W. June Friday 11th 1880

Very warm & "close". I went to Frederic Stabler's to prescribe for "Patty". Also lanced gums & prescribed for an infant daughter of a Mrs: Barnum, who is boarding there. Hung a pair of shutters on North end of our room. After tea Charley took our "Germantown" & a load of young ladies from N Fulford to a "dance" at Grange Hall. Ernest also took one of the N. Fulford ladies in our light buggy. Home half an hour after midnight.

70 Clear, Cloudy & Storm. S.W. Saturday 12th

Quite sultry in forenoon: hung pair of shutters to back window in our room. Louis Scofield came to spend the afternoon with Willie. Heavy thunderstorm whilst I am writing this about 2.40 p.m. Cleared off about 4 o'clock. Edwd: Peirce brought Alice over to spend a day or two with Dora. Jno Ed: Hill here for advice & med for himself & infant. Ernest here in the evening.

73º Clear S.W. June Sunday 13th 1880

Beautiful day, but exceedingly warm and sultry for "Quarterly Meeting" Sunday. Charley went to Lea's Mills & to meeting & took Mgt: Tyson to Sally Lea's. Dora, Alice Peirce & Willie went to meeting. Bro: Richard came & staid with us during meeting time, not feeling at all well. Bro C & Lizzie called for him on way home. Afternoon I started to drive to Jno: Smith's to call upon Susan Coule Sr: who is staying there, but it looked like a "gust" coming up & I came home in time for tea. Not quite as large an "outside" attendance as usual on Quarterly Meeting Sundays in times gone bye.

70 Clear N.W. Monday 14th

Was called (before breakfast) to see Hannah Peirce's daughter "Mabel" who was "horribly" burned by the explosion of a coal oil can from which she was pouring oil to light a fire in kitchen stove. She will probably die. Went again in afternoon. Bro R brok Ed Lea's wagon on [?] & borrowed our Germantown to take Martha Lea & Madge Tyson home. I vaccinated the latter. Charley went again this evening to a party at Henry Chandlee's. Home about midnight Rained all the evening.

67° Rain S.E. June Tuesday 15th 1880

Poor little Mabel Peirce died last night between nine & ten o clock when "Reaction" should take place she never recovered from the "shock" Started to go to Geo Peirces but hearing at the store of her death I went to Edwd Stabler Jr's & home. through the rain. Afternoon I drove over to Jno: M Smith's to call upon Susan Coale Sr: & home via Homewood & Ashton. Raining more or less all day & Evening

64° Clear Cloudy S.E. Wednesday 16th

Slept admirably last night - Drove up to "Kentmere" and "Fulford". Mable Peirce was buried at "Friends Burial ground at 11 o' clock this a.m. Prescribed for the Italian "Harp Man" also for -- Blum cigar peddler. Louis Scofield here

Beautiful Morning. E Peirce & Annie Chandlee came & took Alice home. I went to "Kentmere" & 'Fulford". Hung the shutters in Charley's room cut my left hand In evening Charley took the "Germantown" & took Miss M T Kirk & two Miss Tysons to Scott's to a dance. home at midnight.

Clear N.W. Friday 18th

Drove to Kentmere & Fulford afternoon. Took Harriet, Dora Willie & Edwd: to Riverside and Homewood. Walked up to the store before supper -
