33 Rainy, Windy S E.

Ther Tues. Jan 6, 1885 Wea.

Disagreeable day, the dampness seems to have penetrated he house & wherever there is no fire, the walls are wet. Dora remained in bed all day but we hope she is better this evening. I drove over to see old Mr Leizean. he died just before I got there (at 1 - 6 -p.m. Our neighbor Mrs Robinson called this afternoon to see Harriet & Dora. Old Harry Green here again to see me about Alfred Hood

Clear - Windy N.W. Ther. Wed. Jan. 7, 1885 Wea.

I drove over to "Oak Grove" to prescribe for Kate Stabler again. Mary Ellicott here for "sore throat". Sent John to see Jno Lucas about wood Albin Mitchels' son here & I paid him $1.00 on acct; of balance for hay. Dora seemed better, but is far from well. She came down to dinner.

30 Clear NW Thurs. Jan. 8, 1885

Jus Henry Wilson came for me, & I drove down to his house & prescribed for his wife - Willie went with me to open gates &c. The Roads, off the turn pike are bad. Jus Lucas hauled us a load of oak wood - Afternoon Willie Rode the Roan Mare over to Riverside Old Mr Elias Leizear was buried this afternoon in Friends burying ground. Quite a large funeral. Frank Snowden spent the evening here playing "whist".

30 Clear SW Fri. Jan. 9, 1885

Willie Rode over to the Academy at Brookeville but school does not regularly commence again until Monday next, and he came home again. I drove "Fritz" to the buggy over to Homewood to see cousin Mary Chandlee again. Willie went with me

Johnson's team brought us a load. 2600 lbs of hay (meadow hay). Edwd commenced going to school again on wednesday last (since the holidays) The roads off the turnpikes are wretched, the frost being out of the ground in most places -

27 Clear N.W. Sat. Jan. 10, 1885

Wind blew hard all last night, and this morning it is cold, & the ground frozen hard again. After noon Willie rode the roan mare to Elton to spend the night. Charley & Frank Snowden expecting to go after night after the store closes. Emeline Hopkins here & paid me $1.00 she owed me.

18 Cloudy Sun. Jan. 11, 1885

Sarah Jane Powells daughter here for advice & medicine for "sore throat." I rode "on Fritz" over to Columbus Warfield's & prescribed for his wife. Margt. Botts, who lives at Uncle Chas Draytons was here for advice & medicine. Cloudy dull and disagreeable all day. Besides being raw & cold Willie got home after dark whilst we were at supper. Charley having gone to "Riverside" with Ernest He reached home at 11.45

63 Cloudy, high wind S.W. Mon. Jan. 12, 1885

Last night it was terribly stormy. blowing with great violence & raining hard at intervals throughout the entire night. I slept none until day light. but after break fast I slept until near dinner time. After dinner I walked up to the store & toll house. Jno. Henry Wilson here after dark for advice &c. for his wife - I drove around to Columbus Warfield's & prescribed for his wife again. After tea Charley went to a meeting of the "Sociable" at Robt Stabler's. home in good time.

30 Cloudy Tues. Jan. 13, 1885

Weather much cooler, the ground being frozen. John & I changed the old phaeton body on to the running-gear again, instead of the carriage body. Afternoon Frederic Stabler called and paid his bill to date. Children all at home this evening - much to my satesfaction.

18 Clear & Cloud S.E. Wed. Jan. 14, 1885

About home all day. Fresh fish & oyster men both came along. Afternoon sister Beulah came & spent most of the afternoon. Little Edward was taken with a chill followed by vomiting & high fever & free evacuation of his bowels - Mrs. "Bartlett", (ne Gibson) here for advice & prescription

32. Rain Snow & Sleet. E Thurs. Jan. 15, 1885

Willie took the mare to Sam Budd's & had a shoe put on, & brought her home & took "Charles" horse & the sulkey & went out to school rather late. I was sent for & went to Columbus Warfield's driving "Fritz" to the "phaeton" & taking John with me - through the rain Sent John with the mare after Charley at dinner time. Little Edwd was very sick all through last night: high fever & delirious until about 4. o'clk a.m. He is much better since breakfast time.

Recd: 5th volume of "International Surgery." by stage from Laurel.
