Right page Cloudy & Rain 1890 Ther: 35' Wednesday January 1st, Wind N.E. The New Year commenced with a drizzling rain. Charley came home about midnight last having been helping put up a line of telephone between "Riverside", ["Altrolwood"?] & "Sharon". Chas Hill was here after C. who drove over to prescribe for his wife before dinner. Bro. called on way to meeting Cousin Edwd Lea called & took Fanny with him on her way back to Riverside. Bro R having "picked up" Fanny [Tillum?] Afternoon R Roland Moore Jr wagon brought us a cord of saw'd oak wood. Charely sent "Phil" Robison (riding Fritz) over to J Janney Shoemaker's to see Chas Hill (colored) to try to "collect" some money unsuccessfully however. I walked up to the mill for the papers. Charely drove away again about 4 o'clk pm to another "dance"ing party at Glenwood in Howard County. We took advantage of the drizzling rain with no wind and burned out the chimney at the east end of the house which needed it very badly.
