Ther. 4° Clear & Cloudy. Wind N.W.
Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1897

Still extemely cold, the wind blowing
strong from N.W. which takes away
the heat from our bodies as well as
our houses. We have been busy trying
to caulk up all cracks around the
doors & windows. The cold seems to get
into the houses after several days of
windy cold weather. I went to the store
& P.O. but kept indoors as much as
possible. Fortunately we are well supplied
with good hickory wood & coal.

Ther. 18° Cloudy. Wind N.W.
Wednesday, Jan. 27,th 1897

I was called to the telephone (from Mrs.
Kate Janney's) last night about mid night
to go to see Chas. Howard, who lives at the
old Chandlee Mill place. I was not well
enough to turn out on such a cold blustering
night and declined & advised
them to call Dr. Agustus Stabler, who
was much nearer and younger, but
they preferred waiting for me until
this morning when they again telephoned
for me to come. Willie came over about
that time & I went back with him. He
taking me to Howard's & then to "Fairfield"
Edward came to "Fairfield" & brought me
home. Edwd got out on the way home
at Benj. H. Miller's to practice some duetts
with Mrs. Thom & walked from there
home in time for supper. It commenced
snowing before dark & continued until
bed time.
