45 Clear & Cloudy SE + N.W

Ther. MON. MAY 22, 1899. Wea.

Very chilly this morning
and indeed all day. The
colored people are all out in
"gala attire" for "Whitsuntide"
which is their especial holiday,
and has been since the
old slavery days of "befo
de wah." they have a grand
turnout at Brighton, with
a picnic, & the band.
Afternoon Miss Dora Mitchell
called to see me. I went
to the store & P.O. before and
after noon. The weather is
unsettled, being too cool for
the time of year and will
be apt to bring more rain
before it settles again.

45° Clear & Cloudy N.E

Ther. TUES. MAY 23, 1899. Wea.

Still continues raw & chilly.
Sally Ellicott called to see Dora
also Lizzie Scott & Mrs. Robinson.
We rec'd a letter from Charley
telling of his intended change
of location from [Lincoln?] to
the city of [Leesburg?]. they expect
to move on the first of
next month, he having moved
his office fixtures &c already.
He goes to Leesburg under the
most favorable auspices, and
the practice will be much
less laborious & exposing
I wrote to him by the afternoon
mail.
