George G. Van Schaick, M.D., after investigation carried
on in the French Hospital and St Vincent De Paul
Orphan Asylum, New York City, closes his report with
these remarks:
"The writer has altogether made, or caused to be
made for him, blood counts and estimations of
haemoglobin in fifty surgical cases in which Gude's Pepto-
Mangan was used. In his experience of the last few
years he can recall only one patient, a nervous and
capricious yong woman, with whom it failed to agree.
A statistical examination of the results obtained showed

Clear & warmer. William Thomas (of
John) was here for examination, bandaging
of his right ankle, which had been
sprained. Willie came & took me over
to "Riverside" to see Bro William and
back before lunch. W. took lunch with
us before returning to "Fairfield".
I went to Fairall's office where there
was a "trial" of some cases of "disturbing
a religious meeting" by some
young colored men. Edwd went on his
bicycle to Kensington etc. Hallie Bentley
called in afternoon. They sent for Sister H
to "Woodburn" to a Horticultural meeting.
Edwd came home to supper.

that on an average the first three weeks of treatment
gave an increase of about 40,000 red blood globules a
day, this proportion diminishing later on as the blood
becomes restored to its natural composition. The cases
cited by von Ramdohr and Emory Lanphear, as well as
those I have observed, show that we have in such a
preparation as Pepto-Mangan (Gude) a means of obtaining
good results with a certainty that is almost mathematical,
and without any of the distressing symptoms so
frequently following the use of the inorganic
preparations."

Another beautiful day, the weather
for some time past reminds me of the
San Francisco California weather.
I walked to Ashton & back before lunch.
Edwd was out all day (on bicycle) for
the Telephone Co. This afternoon he went
to "Olney" and vicinity. I went to P.O.
and to the stores several times & again
after supper. Dora & Hannah went
to the store after supper.
