Sept 3rd 1881 , The Enterprise Club met at
the house of Samuel Hopkins . At a quarter
to six o'clock Arthur Stabler was chosen Foreman
and a fair count being made showed nine members
present and a respectable number of guests
who added materially to the evenings enjoyment .
Notwithstanding the dryness of the earth our
host was engaged in preparing his fallowland
for wheat . We could not make the cloddy
soil very fine but was leaving it in much
better condition to receive rain than it was
before . The lateness of the hour did not prevent
us from taking a stroll around the premises
for the double purpose of criticizing our host'
management and learning from him any new
ideas he may have developed in the past year .
two calves in the "stable were apparently
suffering from the effects of the hot, dry season ,
and evidently had the " go - backs".
The barn - yard is supplied with water, from a
tenent _ house some distance away , by means of
troughs made of boards . The place does not look
convenient or substantial , and some wondered at
what point in it's journey ( or shall we say
voyage?) The water congealed last winter when
the Ther. stood at 24 degrees below zero .
Our Host is in most respects a thourough and
practical farmer , therefore we must give it to
him heavy for allowing manure to lie leaching
and bleaching in the rain and sun for a
whole growing season , thereby losing both principal

On line 1, the # '100' is stamped in the color charcoal gray on the top left -hand corner of the page.
On line 2, on the line under the superscript 'd', there are two half-size ones, '11', oriented from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock, on the line.
In line 18, the word 'stable' has a single double quotation mark before the 's'. The two small lines that make the mark are situated 1/3 above the bottom line, at mid-letter height, and are orientated from 10:30 o'clock to 4:30 o'clock.
In line 25, in the word 'it's' there is a backward apostrophe above the 's'.
In nearly every line, this writer uses extra spaces between words. I was not sure how to handle this.
I decided to try to space as the writer did. Of course, I have no tools to do this exactly, so as a rule,
anything that appeared to be up to 1 1/2 spaces was counted as 1 space, anything that was up to 2 1/2 spaces were counted as 2 spaces, and anything that was up to 3 1/2 spaces were counted as 3 spaces.
