June 12, 1948 - 982nd Meeting
THE ENTERPRISE CLUB
The Club gathered for its 982nd meeting at the home of
Albert Stabler, Jr. The walk was confined to the barnyard where the
chief items of interest were our host's unique display of unusual
poultry. Much interest was shown in the peculiar antics of the Tumbler
pigeons. The peafowl under the owner's coaching displayed his beautiful
plumage and also his far from beautiful voice. Several other varieties
of ornamental birds were noted. Our host makes a practice of breeding
and showing these unusual specimens. His success is attested to by the
fact that he is often in the upper group of winners at the larger shows.
Also viewed in the barnyard were steers which, in contrast to the poultry,
were definitely not on the fancy side. They had been bought cheaply and
had appareently made good gains which insures a nice profit in spite of
their poor quality.
Upon returning to the house, we were most happy to find Albert
Stabler, Sr. with us again after a long period of enforced absence.
Guests present were E. H. and H.O. Stabler, Dr. Hendry, Dr. Shearer,
R.H. and T.F. Lansdale and LAwrence Stabler. Absent Wm. Gilpin,
Hurrey, Jackson, F.A. Thomas, Stanton, Walter Wilson, and Welsey.
After a delicious meal and a short social period the meeting
was called to order by President, Wm. Moore. The minutes of the
meeting with our host were read and those of the May meeting were read
and approved as a matter of interest the minutes of
were read.
The Secretary read a letter from Governor Lane acknowledging
the letter of appreciation, the Club had sent him after our meeting in
Annapolis in May.
