The Cedars

The 28th of July 1866 the day for our Society to
meet at The Cedars having arrived the weather
proving very fine all attended except Sarah
B. Farquhar
, M. B. Hale, & Eliza Brooke of Brooke
Grove
. Mrs. Baily & her daughter Nettie
were very pleasantly with us.

The specimens were more in number
and finer in quality than we have yet
had. The large Lima beans, Beets, apples, &c.
from Olney & the general excellent display
from Roger B. Farquhar proved the advantage
of profiting by good teaching.

A single peach brought by Rachel Gilpin
seemed to give much pleasure being passed
around for the company to smell. The crop
this year in our neighborhood has failed entirely.
The falling green garden produced specimens
which were thought very fine. & D. A. Lea had
vegetables fruit and flowers. All good of their
kind. The following questions were asked,
Who has a garden clear of weeds?
But one member R. B. Farquhar was able
to answer affirmatively to this, he being a
farmer with crops which usually take the
first care and adter are worked quite at the ex-
