had been handed in. We then started on
our walk and stopped before the door to admire
the Lady slippers, fusuas [sic] and roses. In the
ground cultivated as a garden this year
were all the things usually found in the best
gardens besides celery, sweet potatoes and turnips.
The permanent garden is to be on the op-
isite side of the house, and raspberry & straw-
berry plants & currant bushes &c have already
been planted. being much gratified by all
we saw, we returned to the house. and
were served with a most excellent supper which
we enjoyed the more from the cozy style in
which we partook of it our hostess house not
permitting of our sitting down to one table.
After doing full justice to the occasion, and
some animated conversation about the ap-
proaching Horticultural Exhibition we proceed-
ed to ask & answer the following
Questions
I When should we begin hilling up celery?
No experience
II How shall we treat the grove in front
of this house to get a good sod?
Harrow it well, sow the grass seed and fertilizer
and top dress with stable manure.
