Society met at Olney April 25 1868.
The importance of punctuality strongly urged
and the hour of 3 1/2 fixed upon for the next meeting
The minutes of the last meeting read by Dr. W E Magruder
in the absence of Secy. H C Hallowell foreman
Procedded to visit the garden the yard we passed
through was filled with beautiful early spring
flowers. Vegetable garden in excellent order
raspberry vines neatly trimmed and tied to stakes
the season being remarkably late the vegetables
were there as elsewhere in a less advanced state
than usual at this time. Specimens, various.
Roger Farquhar peas 6 inches high, several had
winter vegetables. D A Lea flowers & a winter sweet
apple, Eliza Brooke of B Grove flowers radishes
&c. Chickens Rock Spring 50, Falling Green 100
Stanmore 45 Edgewood 22 Olney 48, Brooke Grove
at Longwood. Questions.
Are any raising Key Tomatoes. Several.
How raise cantelupes & get rid of Bugs? Kill the Bugs
& dust with plaster & red pepper, coal tar, &c.
Can Salsify seed be used the second year?
Lizzie Iddings requested to try. Salsify ought to be
planted in rich ground but not manured the same
year
