ones. the dry weather came killed the vines off
and the new potatoes [?] making a second crop.
he was questioned upon the subject of
Sweet Potato raising & strongly advised the
home growing of them. told of the success he
had this year & was seconded in this opinion
by Charles Iddings & wife who said they also had
a crop giving full satisfaction. They should
be planted early. Mary M Miller asked if she
would have a crop of Kale next spring she has
sowed the last bed the last of July and it had
grown so rapidly she found it was too far
advanced. she seemed satisfied to hear that it was
in excellent condition to stand the winter and
would no doubt yield well. Slugs on roses, slips
rooting & Strawberry culture came under discussion
The evening was very rainy but some could not
resist seeing where the pretty things came from so
often brought to our meetings. The garden had been
much improved since we last met there. a large
piece of ground had been taken in long rows of
Blackberries & raspberry bushes &c had been set
out there seemed room for all needfull in this line here.
The part nearest the house was gay with flowers, showing what
comfort & beauty a taste for horticulture woul assure.
