June 25th 1870
Our Society met as appointed at the home
of Rachel and Alban Gilpin, a beautiful place
without a name. The weather was fine and
nearly all the members and some visitors were
present. The flower table was glowing with beautiful
bouquets, dishes and plates of flowers. Brooke Grove
had two bouquets and a splendid magnolia

Sharon Springdale and Riverside all contrib
-uted to its treasures. The specimens of vegetables were large
potatoes beets and onions from Longwood
a fine cucumber potatoes and onions from
Brooke Grove. Beans potatoes and onions from
Springdale. D. A. Lea tried the experiment
of cutting potatoes in half and planting
