The 1st of September 1874
Our Horticultural society met at Riverside.
The beauty of the day rendered the many
beauties of the place more enjoyable. The us-
ual hospitality of our Host and Hostess
had drawn together quite a number of visitors
in addition to the members who were all pre
sent except our President. The visitors
were Mary B. Brooke Charles, Anna and
Eliza Brooke. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hopkins
George and Annie Stabler Lizzie Lea
and Pattie Smith, and Miss Darlington & R. R.
Moore The specimens from Rockland corn, sweet
potatoes white potato and five kinds of
apples. Hermon a large dish of roses
fine apples and peaches also a small
dish of flowers. Longwood parsnips carrots
salsify tomatoes sweet potato showing
no dwarfing by dry weather. Sharon
very fine pears, two handsome bouquets
White Hall large sweet potatoes, a large
basket of peaches and a basket of
large pears and two bouquets Edgewood
beautiful Delaware grapes.
Leawood Mills Lima beans and beautiful
basket of flowers. Springdale very fine
tomatoes and corn and large bouquet
Brooke Grove beautiful bouquet.
