AVALON.

July 4th 1876

Centennial anniversary

On this day we met at Avalon, the
Home of Rachel and Albin Gilpin and found
the flag of our Nation displayed in various
parts of the premises in honor of the
day. The members from White Hall, Longwood
and Fulford were absent and
our guests were Cornelia Gover Eliza Miller
Hadassah J. Moore Lucy Snowden
A. G. Thomas and wife and sister, Anna
and Lizzie Gilpin and Bernard Gilpin.

The specimens were potatoes from
Alloway. From Olney, Lima beans beets
and a bouquet prettily arranged in
Red, White and Blue in honor of the day
From Springdale came beets tomatoes corn
and potatoes; from Edgewood wax beans
and a bouquet, from Rock Spring Goose
berries Raspberries corn cymblins and beets
from Brooke Grove very fine tomatoes.

Roger Farquhar had met with
a statement which he thought there
was some truth in though exaggerated,
That a man could bring more
moisture to his plants with a hoe, in
