H/4/1877-1-

Alloway

April 3rd 1877

This meeting was the first of the season
and the reunion was was particularly pleasant
Many of our members are home staying people and
our Society has been a real benefit in bringing
persons together who love each other but would
seldom meet if not thus assembled. "Iron Sharpen
-eth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance
of his friend."

The first business was whether we should
take in any new members? decided, 9 to 4, that
we had best not enlarge our number, as we
already had 17 families and that made the
society as large as it could be entertaind
comfortably, or conducted profitably.

Questions

1 What six roses must I plant in a rose-
bed? As all rose lovers have favorites,
it was hard to choose, five varieties
were named

2 Are old beans good for seed? Yes

3 How grow early potatoes? Sprout in
the house and use Bond's I.X.IIs, in plant
-ing. Some had success in using stable
manure in the row under the potato

4 Is it too late to move a bed of roses? Not
too late; with careful planting they
can be moved at almost any time
