"The Horticultural" assembled at Longwood
for the second meeting of the
season, that of May having been omitted
as a mark of respect which the
Horticultural wished to pay as a body
to the memory of one loved and honored
President and whose loss is deeply felt.

The day was one of the few warm ones
we have had this year, the noon temperature
given by our President being 90° but the
quality of the heat was not oppressive
and although a very slight shower of
rain fell, the curious clouds were more
a source of interest than of apprehension
and we were able to hold the meeting
in the spacious porch and lawn.

After being called to order by the President
the minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved, and then the selected
articles. Mrs. Nesbitt had chosen one
upon "The Culture of Poppies" which
gave in detail the care they should
receive and offered valuable suggestions
to those raising them.
