This, our first meeting for the year
and the first at this place, was
well attended, our president spoke
of our loss in the death of George
Nesbitt of Sweet Briar.

The minutes were read and
corrected. The readers for this meeting,
1st Robert Miller read "Cultivation
of orchards of Maryland" advising
to make rich, sow crimson
clover in late summer to plow
in early in the Spring. Head the
trees low and keep them low
and open by indicious pruning
and picking the fruit can be
mostly done from the ground.
It will be easier to spray thoroughly.
Thin the fruit to six inches
apart and the increase in the
size of the fruit will make the
bulk as great or greater than if
all is allowed to ripen. Take
off one third to one half the
fruit, keep well worked, but
