Alloway
June 2nd 1903

On Jund 2nd 1903 the Horticultural
Society met at Alloway. The meeting
was called to order by the President,
Roger B. Farquhar, but the Secretary Mrs.
Iddings being absent a substitute was
chosen for the day. The minutes of the
last meeting were read and with very
slight alteration, approved, after which
the appointed readers were called upon.
Because of a misunderstanding, Eliza
N. Moore was not prepared, but Lily B
Stabler read a very able article upon
"How to grow Cherries." which gave
in detail the culture of sweet cherries
West of the Rocky Mountains where they
are raised in orchard blocks as a crop
and found to be a very lucrative one,
a single tree often bringing in from
..$50. to $80.. In Western New York the rich
clay soil fruits the sour cherries so well
that to raise and can them forms
one of the special industries of that
