Mr. Hurrey in most clever fashion called upon He. Nichols for his weather report which was very splendidly gives in detail and the written.

He. Nichols asked to resign but we could not spare so valued a member, and asked him to remain as honorary member.

Norwood. The Maples Sandy Spring Maryland October 1st/'35.

This year, 1935, was ushered in with a cold, blustry New Years Day. Mercury 35° to 38°. Next day the mercury was 20° to 40°, a most beautiful winter's day. We then had the average winter weather until the 23d when things began to happen. Snow, 8 inches, fell on the 23d and the next morning the mercury stood at 5° with eleven inches of snow, and badly dripled in places. No mail or Daily Papers delivered to residences off the State roads. The next morning, the 25th inst. the mercury was 9° below zero, and the 28th inst. 14° below zero. Then 'twas: "When Winter Comes."

Precipitation for January was 5.27 inches, the average being 3.55 inches.

February arrived with the mercury standing on zero. The 2nd, "Groundhog Day,"- the mercury was up to 10°, but clear, the groundhog must have seen his shadow twice for we had 12 weeks of bad weather instead of 6. The 7th inst. the mercury was 2° below zero and the remainder of the month was just winter weather.

March was simply March until 16th when the mercury jumped to 78°. Then more March until the 21st when the mercury jumped up to 76° here and 80° in Washington D.C. The next jump was downward,- when on the 27th, the mercury reached 34° with a very heavy frost. In 3 days the the mercury was back up to 70°. Precip. 3.39" average 3.37"

In April we had all the varaities of weather the U.S. Weather Bureau has in its catalog. On the 9th we had 2 inches of snow with the mercury 33°, and on the 16th the mercury fell to 28° here and 13° with 3 inches of snow in western Md., killing most fruit buds blossoms. The 27th the mercury soared to 89° and the 29th we had hail storms that knocked off about all the fruit blossoms the freeze didn't kill. I say hail storms advisedly, because I was in two of them.

April precipitation 3.95" average 3.37".

May came in with the mercury at 43° and by may the 24th the mercury had worked down to 40° with the furnace fire going full blast. Precip 3.54". average 3.70".

June, July and August were hot, dry summer months, with about on half the normal precipitation.

"September Moon" entered in a bad humor,- mercury 55°, cloudy, raw & cold, and the following four days & nights it rained;- rained over 7 inches. Then, as if ashamed of its down-bursts wishing to make amends, it cleared off into one of the most beautiful Septembers we have ever beheld.

Respectfully submitted. Henry J. Nichols. Weather Reporter.
