Questions
Andrew Adams: Who has a quantity of vinca or
periwinkle for sodding? Mary R. Miller thinks
there is some at the Maples.
Elza Thomas in all seriousness asks what age
honey suckle to plant on a bare bank. Clip it and
put in fairly old plants.
Mr. Hill wants a name for their cabin. The
sec'y gave him a list of those suggested: The
Stoop, Windbreak, Rock Hill, He;;'s Folly, Outcrop.
Andrew Adams invited us to go across the road
to see his garden. He told us of his work with
Haemerocallis lillies. He has produced one that is
a dubonnet wine, another is almost a salmon pink.
One variety stayed in bloom for almost 42 hours, -
it evidently hasn't heard of the labor union.
There is another which has alternate red and
yellow stripes.
Milton Bancroft mentioned an interesting non-
horticultural specimen on display at the Fire
House - a voting machine. His question is about
our old arch foe - crab grass, which has crowded
out the lawn grass. Isabel Wesley recommends
Fall seeding, and Mary Stabler says that Burpee's
grass seed is excellent. Elizabeth Stabler's
beautiful lawn was planted in the Fall. Blue
grass needs water and acid soil.
Fred McReynolds: What has been eating Mt.
Airy corn on the ground? Probably a ground hog.
Emma Stabler wants to plant strawberries
this Fall. Bolgiano says wait till end of Oct.
Mary Stabler tells of a beautiful house plant, Isolama.
Lofton Wesley says that stink bugs have to be
eliminated with a contact poison. Shall he leave
honeysuckle on a bank? Ues, if kept trimmed.
Marianna Miller is told to plant fesque grass
