H/7/1953 -2.
Jack Bentley reported that the case made by Brooke
Moore and donated partially by the Horticultural Society
was now being used at the Sandy Spring museum.
Leon Small was asked to make a complete research
on the water table and make a report to the Society.
The meteorologist gave the weather report for June
as temperature, 73° and 2 4/10 inches rain.
Francis Thomas told how advantageous a sand pile
is to every garden, especially during this dry season,
when seedlings cannot break through the hard crust of
earth.
Lena Stabler told an anecdote of her Uncle Edward
Stabler, original owner of Harewood, and his wife,
Aunt Nancy and a black snake.
Dean Acheson showed his excellent invention, a
slatted box to hold gladiolous bulbs. He plants an
average of 1300 "glads", so winter storage is quite
a factor.
"The Porches" was announced as the next place of
meeting. Rebecca Small and Mary Moore Miller were asked
to give short talks on their recent trips at the August meeting.
The meeting was then adjourned to meet in August.
Respectfully,
Sylvia Woodward
