Bird news was asked for, then in
quiet order came tales of miserable
cowbirds, a race of death between
two quail, or so it seemd. Was it
a game or anger? At least they
wandered off together.
Stories of Owls, then imitations, even
whistles made Jack call for order.
Ruth told of her flowers being eaten
by a starling. Cover with wire,
or stick in the "Whirligigs" that
frighten all birds. Cynthia
had been watching a cardinal
build, only to find a black
snake had eaten the babies.
Then with his snake story
the poor frog croaked as he
went down. And Jessie with
the tale of a pet crow, who
ate 17 locusts which continued
to sing long after
they were out of sight. The story
of Raymonds 'Praying Mantis' was
too brief to report.
Rebecca wonders if there are
fewer birds and toads
this year? Also is there any explanation
for the prolific bloom
