Birds: Jack Bentley reported that a racoon was tearing
down bird nests; that they had a screech oil [owl]. He indicated
that birds at his place werehaving a hard time.
Some one reported the whipporwills were a bit noisy.
Mary Redding had a positive contribution, she had
seen 3 gold finches.

Mr. and Mrs. John Veske were admitted to Horticulture
and the chairman of the membership committee was requested
to advice them.

Questions:

What about the projected appearance of locusts;
Mary Moore had been in Montclair and noted that
locusts were infesting on area of the city and
not the other. It was statee that these are not
damaging locusts.

There was a question dealing with sweet corn
but your secretary only got the answer "You did
not wait long enough".

In answer to a question on peonies, it was
ind cated that you may dig them in Sept, but some
dig any time after blooming. For one plant two
years old which did not have a bloom it was suggested that the roots might be diseased.

Edward Iddings can not get a passion flower vine
to bloom, but no one had any experience. *

Douglas needed help on potato bugs, Frances
told him he had three choice; leave them be
and let them eat; Knock them off, If you are
really serious, mix paris green and line and dust.
He recalled than once we knocked potato bugs off into
kerosene.

What do you spray dogwoods with: DDT, 10 percent.
Two sprays are esential.

There were a few rose questions which revealed that
the old Van Fleet is now called Dawn; the rose at
Roderick Adam's entrance is an American pillar, and
a beautiful rose to have is Go olden wings.

The President announced as readers for the
next meeting Bea Wilson, and Betty Ligon.

The meeting concluded with some reminicenses
of old Sandy Spring talent. Frances remembered that
W. B. Chichester used to sing Hucklebe rry picnic
but no one could sing or recite it. Another remembered
a marvellous one man show by France Thomas 's Father
He just sat ar a table and opened bills.
