July 3rd, 1973. Mt. Pleasant - Harry & Flora Goff.
A summer thunderstorm arrived with the guests
keeping Harry standing in rain and wind holding an
umbrella as he greeted us. After the sun came out
we were able to admire the beautiful green fields and
lawn and the flower border and flourishing
vegetable garden on this beautifully cared for
farm. Absentees were Francis & Grace, Bea & Charles, Sylvia & Dick, Betty Ligon, Bill H?
The buffet cover-dish meal and friendly conversation
were delightful.
President Hussman convened the meeting, and
introduced Flora's sister, Mrs. Walker. Minutes were
read, corrected and adopted. The Committee regarding
the Power Line to Brighton reported that testimony
is complete, and a summary will be made at the
August 3rd meeting.
Buzzy Hussman gave interesting sidelights
of his recent visit to Mt. Storm and Western Maryland.
Robert Miller, selected to read, gave us advice
from Jerry Baker's "Back to Nature Almanac."
The answer to having bloom in one's garden is to plant
shrubs. Select shrubs as to the time of blooming and
be sure to have variety in color. Plant the day they've
been dug and make the hole twice as large as
the roots. Use wood chips and soap and water
as the only spray. Don't disturb the old folks, i.e.
leave azalea roots and shrubs of long standing.
With Sylvia absent because Dick is not well,
there was no "Forethought"
A.D. Farquhar's report recorded the average
High as 82°, the highest being 88° on June 11th,
