Horticultural Society October 9th, 1973.
"Moreland" - with Nancy and Bill Canby
When the Horticultural Society convened at "Moreland"
with Bill and Nancy Canby's new home, Alan Thomas
presided for the absent Buzzy Hussman, and Claire
Hutton took notes for gallivanting Helen Farquhar.
Absent also were Woodwards and the Francis Thomases.
Minutes of September meeting were read.
Betty Ligon reported that she had pulled out
her eight blooming cereus as it was taking up
too much space for one night of bloom.
John and Dorothy Weske were co-readers.
Dorothy's article of 1958 entitled "The Maryland
Vegetable Industry." John's was concerning Clairmont
Nursery near Baltimore. Excerpts advised
customers to come pick up their trees in their
wagons rather than have them sent by
mail, and to get dahlias if there was any
space to plant them. This was the year 1850.
Mary Moore Miller learned about Turf when
she attended a Bazaar in Washington recently.
Betty Ligon saved some seeds from Mary
Moore Millers large crop of cantaloupes this year.
A. D. Farquhar's Weather Report is attached.
September's Highest Temperature was 90° on the
first of the month, and the lowest 46° on the 19th.
