John Weske, Betty Ligon and Ellis and
Lucy Manning.

Minutes of last month were read and
two additions suggested.

Alan Thomas, appointed reader, presented an
interesting article by Mrs. Albert D. Farnell of
Illinois entitled "Have Fun with Herbs."

Mention was made of the food value of
several, parsley especially. Then instructions
as to planting in dish gardens or beds.
Sorrel is tall and forms a good background.
They prefer full sun. Tarragon
will not grow from seed. Summer savory
is a "must" for string beans, thyme is
an addition to salad and soup, rosemary in
meat and soup. 4,000 crocus blooms are
needed to produce 1 ounce of saffron, and
lovage has a pretty lavender flower.

Sylvia's "Forethought" instructed us to
leave two leaves on peony stalks when
cutting the bloom. Mentioned planting
Impatiens and wax begonias, to spray
with Sevin for cut worms, Phaltan and
Benago (DuPont) for roses to prevent
black spot. Plant glad coreus, fertilize
