bits of information pertinent to storm Agnes
in June, 1972. As a background bit of
information he told me that 40.9" is the
average annual precipitation for Maryland.
"Agnes" formed over land in Georgia. Heavy
rain reached us on the 21st of June. [Arlandria?]
had to be evacuated. 6.11" of rain fell on the
21st, 7.19" on the 22nd with winds of 43 m.p.H. at
National Airport. When Agnes struck back into
Pennsylvania she brought floods similar to
those of 36 and 42. Before the storm collected
itself in Georgia there had been thunderstorms
and a temperature of 13° below normal in the Gulf
of Mexico
. Charlie Williams recalled that at
Harper's Ferry the Shenandoah did not flood,
which resulted in only 3" of water in the town.
