Birds and Animals.--

A song thrush was heard by Louie

Sylvia has a wren house, but the wrens prefer the woods.

Claire reported seeing wild turkeys in Garret County.

A lone deer was seen in the field at Riverside.

Betty said that a golden eagle had sat for a spell on
the fence at Quail Hill. The Haviland girls came to see it---said
it must be an escapee, as this was not the time for migration.

Buss Hussman saw a dog, he thought, among the cattle,
but it turned out that it was a red fox.

Announcements.- Cosmic View will have a craft exhibit on
Sunday, July 20.

Questions.- Sylvia said that her begonias are watered
and misted each day, but the blooms have fallen off before
opening. Why? No one answered.

Sarah Manakee said she had saved her ailing asters by
digging them up, washing the roots off, and replanting them.

Some one asked where one could buy a beetle trap and how
much do they cost? Answer: At Cosmic View--they'll tell you
the price. Carolyn said that the year following their use of
beetle traps they had fewer beetles.

Dick Woodward was concerned about the sorrell in his lawn.
Bob Miller suggested the use of lime and bringing in white clover.

Carolyn has a spindly fushia and asks what ails it. Answer,
It needs a heavy fertilizer.

Claire's avocado plant has scale, and asked what to do for
it. No answer, except she was told to throw it away.

Betty Ligon reported that Hazel Ligon has zinnia plants to
give away. Betty also wanted to know how long beetles stay with
us. Bob Miller said they last to October, but not as large an
infestation is expected this year as last.

Mary Redding showed us a huge hard backed black beetle, but
no one could identify it.

Horticultural then adjourned this meeting.
