committee at the next meeting.
Other Business. - The president read to the meeting
the resignation from the Horticultural of Claire and Bea
Hutton, because of Bea's illness. After a brief discussion
by the members, the Secretary was requested to write Claire
and Bea a letter accepting their resignation with regret.
The letter has been written and sent. The Huttons ( Claire
and Bea and previous Huttons, especially Pete and Rose )
have contributed so much in horticultural knowledge, special
ability and charm; we are greatly saddened that we have
now been left without a Hutton member.
Questions. -- Buzz Hussman said that he had heard
it said that marigolds keep rabbits away; and that he saw
a row of marigolds on the outside of the Riverside vegetable
garden. He asked, has it helped? Answer: Yes -- the
Hartges have not been pestered by rabbits.
Herbert Kinney wanted [to] know if you get a better crop
of cucumbers if you support the vines or let them run.
There was no definite answer -- cum si cum sa.
Carolyn wanted to know how one goes about preserving
onions. Some one said cook them and freeze them.
Wendy Lawrence asked if you should trim laurel.
Some do -- some don't.
Flora Goff said that their potatoe vines have little
balls, and one was passed around. The answer was they are
seeds, and it is from such that new varieties of potatoes come.
