Report on Birds. -- There was no report on birds, but
this part of the program turned out to be a report on the
Tall Ships which had come up the Chesapeake Bay to visit
Baltimore. It was a great thrill, 'twas said, to visit
the Baltimore waterfront and see the great sailing ships
with their sails at full sail. They looked like great
birds and were as handsome. The respective ships came
from many countries and had participated in the rendezvous
called "Operation Sail" at New York City that was staged
as part of the New York Bicentennial celebration
of the American Revolution.
The Seilers reported they had a dogwood problem:
the trees' leaves wilting. The response was that it looked
like the borer at work. It was suggested the Bea
Wilson could tell one what to do, as she has had that kind
of trouble.
The Horticultural adjourned to meet on September
7th with the Hussmans at Roslyn. The reader for that
meeting will be Bill Hartge.
Respectfully submitted,
[signature]
Lucy Manning, Secretary.
