H/10/1976-1-
THE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
October, 1976.
The October, 1976, meeting of the Hurticultural [Horticultual]
Society met on Tuesday, the 5th of the month, at
Clifton, the lovely home of Jim and Elizabeth Bullard.
It was the first meeting of the Horticultural with
Jim and Elizabeth, and all of us enjoyed touring the
house and viewing its arrangements and furnishings.
Jim and Elizabeth had as their guests Bernice and
Barry Tarshes, Fred and Nan Rhinelander, and Ellen
Powell. The Bullard sons also were much interested
participants in the meeting.
The minutes of the September meeting at Roslyn
with the Hussmans were read and were approved as
corrected.
As this October was the last meeting of
the Horticultural Society for 1976, the President appointed
a Nominating Committee to nominate individuals to
serve as the officers of the Society for the two (2)
years commencing with the April, 1977, meeting. Buzz
Hussman, Flora Goff and Jim Bullard the individuals
who were appointed to as such committee. They are to
make their report at the start of April, 1977, meeting.
The reader for this October meeting was Alan Thomas,
who read a very informative article on the planting of
bulbs. They should be planted in October. The bulb
toss method was recommended. Toss the bulb onto the
area selected and plant each bulb where it has fallen.
One can lay a garden hose to mark out the area for planting.
Resist any temptation to relocate any bulb. The
plants will look more naturalif [natural if] the bulbs are left where
they fall. Plant in holes loose enough for them to push
up. Ivy and vines are good ground cover for the area.
