The First meeting for re-organization of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department was called to order by Mrs. Robert Miller, Jr., acting President, at the Fire House on Thursday, February 19th, 1948 at 8 P. M. with 52 ladies present.
Mrs. Miller reported that the first auxiliary of the Fire Department was organized when the new fire house was being built. A list of the members was placed in the corner stone in 1930.
One of the first projects of the auxiliary was to sell the tile bricks that line the wall of the engine room. It sold tile amounting to $309.00. It also furnished the kitchen, buying the stove, china, tables, also bought the window shades, light fixtures, coveralls for the use of the men and all the house bought at the time. They did not have as many trucks then as they have today.
Later on it paid for the special ceiling in the engine room.
Mrs. Miller read a report for the year 1930 - 1931 showing lunches $134.65. These were served for $0.35 and $100.00 was reported from card parties.
In 1932 Leon Carroll asked the ladies to serve a banquet for the Fire Department and some guests. Each year thereafter the Fire Department has served a banquet once a year. In March 1934 a banquet serving 63 cost $26.82.
The Auxiliary had a Constitution and By-laws of which Mrs. Bussler has a copy.
The Offices to be filled are President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer and at some future time if need of one is necessary, a Corresponding Secretary.
There are also to be the following Committees, Chairman of Inprovements, Ways and Means, Publicity, Food, House and Grounds.

-2A motion was made that we appoint five persons as a nominating Committee to bring in names for the offices mentioned above. The motion was duly seconded and carried.
After quite a lengthy discussion the number of meetings to be held each year were left open to be fixed at the next meeting. However, a meeting was called for March 4th, 1948 so as to elect officers and get lists of Committees for the Carnival to the Firemen.
Mrs. Fred Gilpin suggested that we have our meeting between the Executive Committee Meeting and the regular monthly meeting of the Fire Department.
The question of dues was brought up and it was stated that formerly dues were $1.00 per year. A motion was made that the dues continue to be $1.00 a year as before and that they be pay- able as of this date. The motion was duly seconded and passed. Mrs. Miller submitted the following names as a Nominating Committee: Mrs. Donald Hobbs Mrs. Lee Hawkins Mrs. Robert Kemp Mrs. Louis Lethbridge Mrs. Kenneth Hobbs
A motion was made to accept this list as submitted which was duly seconded and passed.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.

-3The first regular meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department was held on March 4, 1948 at 8 P. M. at the Fire House with 46 members present.
Minutes of the February Meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. Donald Hobbs read the names submitted by the Nominating Committee which were as follows: Mrs. Herman Ladson - President Mrs. J. J. Meyer, Jr. - Vice President Mrs. Roy E. Davis - Secretary Mrs. Robert Kemp and Mrs. David Brigham names were submitted from the floor for Treasurer.
A ballot was cast with the following results: Mrs. Herman Ladson - President Mrs. J. J. Meyer, Jr. - Vice-President Mrs. Roy E. Davis - Secretary Mrs. Robert W. Kemp- Treasurer
Mrs. Robert Miller, Jr. read the Constitution and By-Laws of the former auxiliary. A motion was made that a Committee be appointed to revise the Constitution and By-Laws. This motion was duly seconded and passed. Mrs. Ladson appointed Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Carr and Mrs. David Brigham as this Committee.
A motion was made that the meetings of the organization be held quarterly beginning in January. This motion was duly seconded and passed.
The order of business as used by the former auxiliary was read.
A motion was made that we meet on the second Thursday of the months in which we meet. The motion was duly seconded and passed. It was then moved that the motion just made and seconded

-4be thrown out and another motion was made that we meet on the First Thursday of the months in which we meet. It was moved and seconded that we meet on the First Thursday of our meeting months, the next meeting to be held April 1, 1948 at 8 P.M.
A letter was read from R. W. Janney, President of the P. T. A. in regard to having a representative at the meeting to organize a Community Library. A motion was made that a representative be sent from our organization to attend this meeting on April 12, 1948, at 8 P. M. at Sherwood School. Mrs. Ladson appointed Miss Mary M. Miller to be the representative to attend. this meeting.
A request was read from Mr. Arthur Smith, a member of the Fire Department, in regard to having some one distribute pamphlets in the drive for chest x-rays. It was stated that all available persons that could do this were already placed for this work.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

-5The Executive Committee of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department met at the home of Mrs. J. J. Meyer, Jr., on March 29, 1948 at 8 P. M. The purpose of this meeting was to go over the new Constitution and By-Laws which had been written by a Committee appointed for this purpose. After quite a lengthy discussion the meeting adjourned.
