The regular business being concluded
the President called on Mary B.
Thomas to open a general discussion
of the suffrage question, which she
did by reading an admirable
paper on the affirmation side. She
was followed by Allan Farquhar, who
kindly consented to present the
case for the opposition. While truth
requires that your secretary should
assert to the estimate read by
the speaker in private as to his
effort that it was "very weak", yet
it was generally expressed
opinion that he did "remarkably
well" - "wonderfully well - in fact
briliantly" - considering the small
amount of worn out material at
his disposal for the construction of
[?] works for protecting
the flanks and rear of the retreating
columns of the enemies of Right
