5. M. Farquhar read two short extracts, one "A Minister's Rights"
among which is the right to fail sometimes; and the other
the blessings of "Occupation."

6. H. J. Moore, an account of the mode of giving gloss
to silks and also she showed us a very nice foot-warmer
or container to keep the feet warm in travelling.

7. R. E. Gilpin, an interesting, but distressing letter dated Nancy,
in France from the Tho's Whitewell, a British Friend, who was
the third to go, and the first to distribute the aid of his
society to the suffering poor in the war desolated districts.

8. J. Porter reserved her communication till another time.

Avalon, 2nd month 23rd, 1871

The Association held its 11th meeting at this place this
afternoon. There was a good attendence of members and guests
but two members being absent, rarely, M. S. Hallowell & M. W. Kirk.

About 3 o'clock, we came to order, and the minutes were read;
after which M. Farquhar read some parts of an interesting account
of a summer tour to Lapland, describing some of the country and its people.

2. R. E. Gilpin, an extract from the writing of Richard Shackleton in 1781.

3. J. Porter, a poem called "Coming" meaning the coming of Christ.

4. M. M. Miller, an interesting account of "Ancient Telegraphing"
by means of Towers, fires, etc.

5. Sarah E. Stabler read a very good extract from a sermon on childhood.

6. S. H. Stone a Vinnie Reams' statue of Lincoln (read by C.B. S.)

7. M. L. Roberts, some interesting facts about the climbing of plants.

8. H. J. Moore A short account of a "remarkable family," in Kentucky.
