Clifton, 11th mo 29th 1888

More lovely weather could
hardly be imagined than this
Thanksgiving morning, on which
we again assembled at this place.

Although several of our members
were absent, the presence of welcome
guests, increased our number to
a large company.

M. W. Kirk commenced the
usual reading with E. B. Browning's
beautiful poem "The Mother's Prayer".

"A paper on the pre-historic times in
Dakota Territory, gave an account
of a circle - (called medicine rock
and worshipped by the Indians.)
on which can be seen distinct
prints of human feet. The Indians
know nothing of these impressions
and they were made while
the rock was in a soft state.
She also read an article on
the relationship among the Omahas,
one of the customs being when a
man died, his children are taken
away from the mother and
given to the father's relatives:
and the mother has to work
for the whole family."
