garden near Washington where some
enterprising Ah Sin is busily and profitably
engaged in raising all sorts of queer herbs,
beans and melons for a Chinese restaurant
in the City. Sarah E. Stabler had several

Gladstone's talent as a linguist.

Mary G. Colt had a funny story of a little
girl who was afraid her baby brother might
have a harder time cutting his hair than
his teeth, he being bald headed. M.G.C. also
read of mother of pearl fishing in the Red
Sea which was new to some of us at
least, 300 boats are engaged in this industry.

Fanny Crosby Allstyne the blind composer
of many familiar songs and hymns.

We were advised to let caunas die down
from frost and then dig the roots and keep
them in a cellar. One woman covers the bed with
manure and leaves, and let them stay in the ground
all winter. The dampness of the earth kept many
from a close inspection of the beautiful garden which
was a wealth of bloom, some of the flowers being very
rare. We notice a dozen or two potted primulas and the
conservatory was full of plants ready to blossom on small
