a great deal more than they do 90% of
the M.D.s would have to go out of the
business of physicing their fellow mortals.

Harriet J. Lea told some curious facts
about phosphorescence, even sugar and salt
possessing this property, it was stated
that experiments were now being made
with phospheric paints which would
lighten up the walls of dark offices,
it was claimed. Elizabeth Scott had
not brought a contribution, but she answered
a number of questions with regard to
her managment of nearly 100 young
ducks which she does not allow to
swim at all. She has been successful
for several successive years selling
them young, and finding it profitable
to fatten them quickly on oatmeal &
corn pone largely. The Secy' said she
had found a magazine article about
Brookeville Indiana, which was interesting
to herself for more reasons than
one. This was the birthplace of Lew
Wallace, Maurice Thompson, Hiram Powers,
General Burnside, Joaquin Miller, the great
engineer Eads, and many others of local
celebrity. The Post Office Dept. at Washington
begs Md. & Ind. people to put the names of
their states in full upon letters as those for
our own Brookeville are often sent to Ind. &
vice versa. A storm prevented any inspection
of the neat premises without, but we
caught glimpses of thrifty trees, plants, and
shrubbery, and do not doubt the garden
would have repaid a visit. Adjourned to
The Cottage.
